Core Program 2 - Foundation Skill Development

Gross Motor Skill Program for Foundation to Year 2 students

Developing Fundamental Motor Skills is essential for children in Foundation to Year 2, as it helps them to build confidence in their physical abilities, as well as prepare them for more advanced physical activities in the future.

Proactivity Foundation Skill Development Programs align with the Victorian Curriculum.

Foundation Skill Development Program Overview

Our program is designed to help children develop these essential skills in a fun and engaging way. Through a range of interactive activities and games, students will learn how to move their bodies in different ways, improve their balance, coordination, and agility, and develop their overall physical literacy.

Key Focus Points:

  • Perform fundamental movement skills in different movement situations
  • Discuss the body’s reaction to performing various skills
  • Learning through solving movement challenges
  • Identify rules and fair play across various skill tasks
  • Catch, Kick, Run, Vertical Jump, Leap, Dodge, Bounce & Overarm Throw

Foundation

  • Cooperate with others when participating in physical activities (VCHPEM068)
  • Practise fundamental movement skills and movement sequences using different body parts and in response to stimuli in indoor, outdoor and aquatic settings (VCHPEM064)
  • Participate in games with and without equipment (VCHPEM065)
  • Follow rules when participating in physical activities (VCHPEM070)

Years 1 & 2

Moving the body

  • Perform fundamental movement skills in different movement situations in indoor, outdoor and aquatic settings (VCHPEM080)
  • Construct and perform imaginative and original movement sequences in response to stimuli (VCHPEM081)
  • Create and participate in games (VCHPEM082)

Learning through movement

  • Use strategies to work in group situations when participating in physical activities (VCHPEM085)
  • Propose a range of alternatives and test their effectiveness when solving movement challenges (VCHPEM086)
  • Identify rules and fair play when creating and participating in physical activities (VCHPEM087)

Respond to dance, expressing what they enjoy, and where and why people in their local area dance.
